Color Symbolism Final: Self-Doubt

Description

Sometimes, even when those closest to you shine light on you, all you can think of is the shadow you cast.

----

I managed to make yet another project with my original characters again~

Here, I only used 4 colors: red, green, black and white. So basically it's red and green with some of their mixes with tints, tones, and shades. :>
Here are some color meanings that I applied when composing this piece:

Green: (pos.) soothing, life, reassuring, health, balance, restful, new beginnings; renewal, calm, quiet, trustworthy

Red: (neg.) violent, antagonistic, dangerous, aggressive, tempermental

This took a butt-ton of time to paint! I really was uneasy with how I was gonna execute this at first, so I made myself a rather unnecessarily complicated color palette that explored the different colors I could make with just red, green, black and white. And during that time, I got some neat tips from a senior friend, who's amazeballs at painting digitally--and for a good reason too! She used reference photos...something I never thought of using, and I still facepalm when I think how much easier it would for me to understand lighting better if I had done the same.

Then again, it's not like there's glowing green crystals in a mossy forest for me to look at is there? :P So my senior friend gave me a good suggestion: working out the highlights and shadows in black and white first, then using that as an overlay layer to the color layer. Seems to have worked pretty well, but from now on I should do some digital painting practice. I have a LOT to explore because of Color Theory class. :3c

And guess who stayed up til 4:30 in the morning to finish this? Meeeeeeeee :'U

I was just reading that advice your friend gave you the other day about figuring out highlights/shadows and then doing the color! I haven't tried it yet, but since it worked so well for you I'll have to. I like their poses, they look really natural and comfortable. I feel like cross-legged is a really hard position to draw. Not that I've tried! Weird ground, I like it; it reminds me of the fairy mounds in Ireland.
